Day 39-40: is it a full moon?

Today was weird – good weird, but still weird.  I woke up to tiny feet in my face because of course Addie crawled into my bed in the middle of the night without waking me up.  We did the usual routine – get dressed, make lunch for Anya, get her to the bus, get the other girls ready, and try to get out the door to preschool on time.  The strange thing was that instead of fighting Addie on eating, getting dressed, or wearing her coat, she complied.  Happily complied.  We took Lorelei to preschool and when it came time to say goodbye, Addie did not scream for her big sister.  We left and made our way to the gym.

Normally at the gym, I end up getting off any machine I’m on to get Addie off the tables, toys, or bookshelf.  She has also been known to try to get naked at the gym and to be mean to other kids in there.  Today, she didn’t want me to leave; I spent the first five minutes showing her I’d be right where she could see me.  For the hour we were there, she was angelic.  No fighting, no yelling, and when she did climb on something, she got right down when I told her to.  I didn’t have to leave an elliptical or weight machine the entire time.  Miracle.

We of course had to get groceries and check the mail.  Addie was helpful and actually fun to shop with.  She was talking to all the workers, helping put things in the cart, and even holding my hand while walking with me (that NEVER happens).  She was even hugging me.  We picked Lorelei up from school, which is always a disaster since Addie wants to run around the CDC, and she was great.  Her only tantrum was at the craft store, but in her defense, she was tired and this one was minor compared to her usual fits.  We went home, she took a nap, and she woke up happy.  The rest of the day, she was actually fun!  We read books, played a game, ate dinner, watched some cartoons, and snuggled together.  She went to bed without a fight (although I can still hear her awake upstairs.  My new concession with bedtime is that if she’s in her room, it’s good.  Bedtime is still a challenge).  Today was like having a different Addie – a happy Addie that I hope sticks around.

On the other hand, Anya and Lorelei were strangely naughty today.  They wouldn’t eat dinner, they were fighting with each other all afternoon and evening, and Lorelei was just defiant about doing anything.  It was quite odd – like the girls switched places with one another.  I had to wonder what was going on today.  I looked it up, and the full moon was on Tuesday.  Freaky Friday moment?  Nope, today is Thursday.  Is Addie actually behaving better?  I would like to hope so!

Regardless of why my children behaved the way they did today, I will take a well-behaved Addie with slightly naughty Lorelei and Anya any day.  It was a nice break from the norm – and it reminded me that no matter how much that little girl drives me insane, Addie can be such a wonderful, smart, happy little girl.  Maybe that was the reason for the great switch – to see my naughty Addie in a better light once again.

P.S.  That picture of her above is going to be such a great graduation/wedding blackmail photo.  I’m the nicest mom, right?  🙂

  1. I’m extremely impressed with your writing skills and also with the layout on your blog. Is this a paid theme or did you modify it yourself? Anyway keep up the excellent quality writing, it is rare to see a nice blog like this one today..

    1. Thank you! This is just a free theme I selected and tweaked on colors a little, and I try to keep my writing focused on my life and my family (although I do vary from time to time!). Thank you for the interest and compliments!
