Day 54-55: sunny skies make better nights

I don’t know how the weather has been where you live, but here in Italy, it has been downright gorgeous this week.  Today, it reached 60 degrees – in February!  I keep asking people who have lived here longer if the weather is normal for this time of year, and the general answer is no.  But I am never one to turn down some sunshine and warmth in the winter, so I’ll take it.

The kids and I have been taking advantage of this weather everyday.  We have been to the playground, on walks, and running around the backyard with Emma.  We have opened the windows and shunned our winter coats.  In other words, we have been in heaven.  The best part is that with all this fresh air and exercise, my kids have been sleeping – I mean, really sleeping.  Last night, no one woke or refused to go to bed.  They all woke up early this morning but happy.  It is hard work exhausting them during the day with all the play, but it is worth it!

However, this also means I am exhausted at night too.  The lack of energy for studying and for writing this blog is an unfortunate side effect.  On the other hand, we have been having fun during the day.  It sounds weird, but getting all Addie’s energy out during the day makes her sleep better at night, which means she wakes up happier.  Believe me, we are still having meltdowns and are stubborn to no end, but in between those moments is a happier kid.  I’m taking every sunny day and using it to my advantage!  In other good news, we have an appointment for Addie on Monday to get her evaluated – yay!  I’m anxious to see what happens.

Today, we spent a lot of time outside, and I can barely keep my eyes open to write this.  Thought I would share the picture above that I took today at the playground before I go – like I said, it was gorgeous today.  Here’s to hoping for sunny days and sleep-filled nights for you too!
